We shouldn't be surprised by what's happening and the slow pace, even though it is frustrating. Employees of the club are not involved in the negotiations and will know little of what's happening and would be under strict instructions of confidentiality anyway.

It's crucial to get this right; it's the most important moment in the club's history for many years and I would rather weeks' delay than rush into a deal and end up in Pompey's situation. I do trust the Doughty estate; they won't do anything that would have upset Nigel or hurt his legacy so let's try to be patient.

The long term stability of the club is more important than losing out on players or even another poor season in 2012-13.
