By encouraging McCleary and fuelling his confidence and by finding the best way to utilise the talents of Reid and Majewski, Cotterill played a key role in Forest's survival.

The only player Cotterill did not manage to coax into life was the complex character; the flawed genius that is Lewis McGugan, who took a step backwards in 2011/12.

If Cotterill can address that issue next season, while also again enticing the best from the other talismanic figures at the club, it will not be a bad starting point for what – unless something moves on quickly with any potential takeover – is likely to be another testing campaign.

Cotterill's persuasive powers were not enough to convince McCleary or O'Driscoll to remain at the City Ground. But they could still be a vital asset in the future.

What an opportunity for SC, what an opportunity, many would like to be managing ateam like Nottingham Forest FC many many many would!

Sort the head swayed players, add some Fledglings, Loan experience through spine of team inc. an out and out goalkscorer.

JOBS easy!

COME ON YOU REDS, This season has to be the one!
